The 7 Most Used Employee Services in Company Intranets

Based on our experience in the industry, we’ve put together a ranking of the 7 employee services that have proven to be the most used and preferred by companies.

Over the years we’ve built all kinds of intranets, and these services have consistently shown up in most of the ones we’ve implemented.

Let’s get started!

The 7 most used employee services in company intranets

In my experience, I’ve built company intranets of every kind. 7 services in particular, though, have proven to be the most requested and used, given how genuinely useful they are for a company. Let’s find out which ones…

7. The training area

Let’s start from the bottom. The training area is the service that lets employees view the training courses they need to take, whether in person or through e-learning.

The added benefit is that they can also use a request form to sign up for new courses to develop skills in specific areas of their field.

6. The welfare area

6. The welfare area

Welfare is a concept that’s spreading rapidly across Italian companies.

It’s a fairly old concept that has only recently caught on.

Essentially, the intranet lets you publish the services, benefits, and support the company offers its employees to improve their well-being, both at work and in their personal life.

5. The expense report form

Especially for larger companies, having a form inside the intranet that lets users independently log all the expenses they’ve incurred, for example during business travel, is extremely useful. They can also attach photos of receipts and everything else needed. This feature is genuinely one of the most used inside the intranet.

4. Request forms

What does that mean?

Intranets can dedicate a space to digitized request forms for a variety of purposes.

That ranges from vacation requests to remote work requests, sick leave, travel requests, and so on. This cuts down the time and effort spent on routine company processes.

3. Employee access to their payslip

This is one of our favorite killer apps, because it drives a huge amount of traffic on an intranet, generating very frequent visits from every employee in the company.

Obviously, everyone wants to know what salary they’re getting at the end of the month.

You can use the intranet to publish payslips either by using the intranet itself as a repository for these files (which almost never happens), or by integrating your HR system so employees can access payslips generated by an external system.

Why use the intranet to show payslips?

So that the intranet becomes, for every person working at the company, the main digital place to access and instantly find all the information relevant to their job.

2. Help desk support tools

Companies can use the intranet as a knowledge base for the most common support requests. The goal is to help people solve problems on their own, without waiting for support that, at certain times of the year, can be slow to respond.

intranet space booking

1. Space booking

We’ve reached the top spot.

The service most used by employees inside a company intranet is, without a doubt, booking company resources.

This is a tool for booking a desk, a parking spot, a seat in the canteen, and above all, booking meeting rooms.

It’s certainly the most used service by the vast majority of companies, both in Italy and worldwide.

Booking the spaces employees move through in their daily routine helps them save time and cut down the steps needed to get what they need.
