Sliding News for the SharePoint intranet: the benefits it offers
Administrators can choose whether to display all news published on the intranet or select specific sites only. They can also create tags to categorize topics and use them to show in the banner only communications that belong to one or more categories.
Simple configuration
How the sliding news ticker works
Sliding News presents your latest SharePoint news in a clean, linear banner that rotates automatically. When carousel mode is enabled, items slide every 5 seconds, keeping the most recent communications in continuous view without crowding the page. Users can also navigate manually using the arrow buttons at the bottom of the web part, moving back and forth through headlines at their own pace. Each item in the ticker is clickable, opening the full news page on the current tab or a new one.
Control what scrolls in the banner
Administrators decide exactly which news the ticker surfaces. You can choose how many items appear, set the source site or pull from an entire hub site, and order entries by publish date in ascending or descending sequence. Metadata tags such as "Highlights" or "Company news" filter the feed by category, while audience targeting limits visibility to specific security groups. Multilingual filtering hides untranslated content, so each user sees a relevant, accurate news stream in the banner.

Frequently asked questions
How fast does the Sliding News banner rotate between items?
When carousel mode is enabled, the Sliding News web part automatically advances to the next item every 5 seconds. If you prefer a static display, you can leave carousel mode off and let users move through headlines manually using the arrow buttons at the bottom of the web part.
Can I choose which news appears in the sliding ticker?
Yes. Administrators select the source site the news is taken from, or enable hub site sourcing to include content from across an entire hub. You can also filter the feed by metadata tags such as "Highlights" or "Company news," target specific audiences by security group, and set how many items the banner shows at once.
Can the ticker presentation be styled to match our brand?
Yes. The web part offers configurable color settings for the background, titles, and text, entered as hex codes, RGB values, or chosen with a color picker. You can also toggle the background and title visibility, apply shadow effects (High Contrast, Light, or Dark), and invert the title and content layout to keep the banner consistent with your corporate brand.
What happens when a user clicks a headline in the banner?
Each scrolling headline links to its full SharePoint news page, opening either on the current page or in a new tab depending on your configuration. A customizable "View All" link can also direct users to a designated news archive page, so they can browse the complete set of communications beyond what the ticker displays.
