Contributors for the SharePoint intranet: What are the benefits?
It is often useful to have at least one point of contact available to explore the topics of a news article in more detail or ask questions about a company policy. SharePoint addresses this need by displaying the users who created or modified a content page; however, sometimes, it is necessary to show different contacts. Our web part is designed to extend SharePoint’s capabilities, allowing you to highlight the most relevant contacts for the topics covered on an intranet page.

Automatic contributor detection
The Contributors web part automatically identifies the users who have edited and republished a SharePoint Online page. When a user clicks Edit and republishes the content, they are recognized as a contributor and added to the displayed list. This mechanism brings transparency to how a page evolves over time and highlights the subject matter experts and editors behind it, without requiring manual maintenance of the contributor list.
Manual control with Add and Hide Users
Beyond automatic detection, administrators can fine-tune the displayed contributors directly from the property pane. The Add Users property lets you include people who provided critical input without editing the page themselves, such as a subject matter expert behind a knowledge base article. The Hide Users property removes specific people from the list even if they edited the page, so each section shows only the most relevant contacts. Contributors appear with profile pictures, and hovering reveals email and quick contact via Teams.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Contributors web part decide who to display?
It automatically identifies users who clicked Edit and then republished the SharePoint page, adding each of them to the contributor list. This tracks how a page has evolved and recognizes the editors and subject matter experts who shaped its content, without manual upkeep.
Can I add someone who didn't directly edit the page?
Yes. The Add Users property in the property pane lets administrators manually include people regardless of whether they edited the page. This is useful when a subject matter expert provides critical input for a knowledge base article but does not edit the page directly.
Can I remove a user from the displayed list?
Yes. The Hide Users property allows you to remove specific users from the displayed list even if they edited the page, so each section shows only the most relevant contacts for the topic covered.
What appearance settings are available for the web part?
From the property pane you can show or hide the web part background and its shadow, select a shadow style (High Contrast, Light, or Dark), and customize the application title, which defaults to Contributors, or hide the title entirely.
